Reuniting our Heroes from Dad's Army
When Heritage recently featured the memories of Home Guard volunteers Wally Plummer and Jack Gale, little did we know their famous frontlines would soon be making national headlines.
But the launch of a new £7million lottery fund called Home Front Recall has done just that.
The scheme hopes to provide funds for street parties, services, reunions and parades to commemorate the often forgotten Dad's Army, a voluntary unit of troops trained to defend their country in case of enemy invasion in the Second World War.

Croydon's own wartime volunteers have welcomed the concept. Mr Plummer, of High Street, Thornton Heath, said: "It's a good idea. Memories can disappear if you don't develop them for the young."
Although he would enjoy any street party, he believes most of the Home Guard prefer to keep themselves to themselves.
"I don't like to prattle on about my role too much, I feel like Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses, boring everyone to tears."
John Hayhittle, 80, of Sander-stead, was a member of the Addiscombe Home Guard. He believes some of the funds should go towards a book about their incredible spirit.
"Many books have been written about specific companies," he said. "But across the country the Home Guard's spirit of defiance in the face of Invasion was incredible and it is often overlooked.
"In reality we knew if the Germans landed we would not stand a chance. Hitler's Operation Sea Lion intended to invade Brighton and reach London within 48 hours. We wondered why they thought it would take so long ." he added.
Home Front Recall is supported by the New Opportunities Fund, Community Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
