Addiscombe Memories

A woman who has lived in Addiscombe for 70 years is pouring out her memories to the authors of a new history book of Addiscombe, volume 2. She says that her daughter gave her a copy of the First Book of Addiscombe as a Christmas present, which was very interesting and so nice.

Iby Ayling, 87 years old at the time of going to press (15/11/2002) from Cheyne Walk used to live in Black Horse Lane. Ivy came over from Canada aged 17 and worked in Kenards, and later worked for Roffey & Clark the stationers. She was married to Ernest, who died 23 years ago, and had a daughter & son.

During the blitz, Ivy can remember her doctor's car being shot at while it was parked in Colworth Road.

Her father was in the Choir at St. Mary's in Canning Road, where her uncle was the organist.
